The reason why is because there wasn't any perspective I could add to this link which didn't do it a disservice.

a16z's Chris Dixon masterfully traces the history of the computer and draws unlikely connections between various historical figures. A reminder that most step changes in science, technology and design - any field in fact - are built on the great works of those that came before.

Set aside some quiet time to read this. It'll be worth it.
